When time off and willpower haven't fixed it, the problem isn't your discipline. It's a nervous system that never got the signal to stand down. That's the work we do here.
You can't switch off. Sleep is wrecked, patience is thin, and vacations stopped working. The first two days off are just detox from the week before.
You're sharp but scattered. Focus and follow-through cost more than they used to. The dropped details are starting to show, and you know it.
You're high function outside, redlined inside. Founders, attorneys, physicians, academics, first responders. The people around you would never guess.
Rest alone hasn't reset it. Because burnout is a load problem, not an hours problem. If the wear is structural, a week off cannot discharge it.
Plenty of my clients are ADHD or otherwise neurodivergent, and the approach holds: this is design and regulation work for the brain you actually have, not a lecture about trying harder. The longer version of the load argument is in Burnout Is a Load Problem, Not an Hours Problem.
The World Health Organization classifies burnout as an occupational phenomenon: chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. Not a character flaw. Not softness. Brain-imaging research on chronically burned-out professionals shows a consistent signature, and the most important finding in that literature is that the changes are largely reversible.
Generic coaching gives you accountability and pep. Therapy heals what's behind you. This work does something different: it retrains the stress response itself, using nervous-system regulation first, then rebuilds focus and habits on top of a body that can actually support them.
Three phases, measured at intake and re-measured at six weeks. No guesswork about whether it's working.
Stop the bleed. Breathwork, somatic awareness, and foundational regulation skills that give your nervous system its first real off-switch in years. Everything else depends on this.
Brain back online. Cognitive reframing and identity work once the physiology can support it. Optional home EEG neurofeedback begins here for clients who add it.
Build a life that doesn't require survival mode to run. Behavioral architecture, habit design, and a sustainment plan you keep after the engagement ends.
This is the Phoenix Protocol methodology. Full detail, pricing tiers, and the science live on the Phoenix Protocol page. Home neurofeedback, EEG brain training on real hardware with weekly remote data review, is available standalone or alongside coaching.
I'm a clinical psychology doctoral student and an ICF certified coach, not yet a licensed clinician. That line matters and I keep it bright. This work is non-diagnostic and non-therapeutic: forward-focused regulation and performance design.
“Adam brings a quiet power and presence that immediately puts you at ease. He asks instinctive questions that drive deep under the surface, allowing you to explore perspectives you might not have before. You'll feel safe, respected, and free to be candid about whatever's on your mind.”
“Adam has such a calming presence. He is open, welcoming, and creates a space that cultivates trust. Every session with Adam results in new awareness, renewed confidence, and personal growth.”
Clinical psychology doctoral student at Hawai'i School of Professional Psychology, Chaminade University. ICF certified coach. 21 years in the United States Air Force, 13 of them leading a bomb squad, which is where I learned what a nervous system under real, sustained load does, and what it takes to bring one back.
Honolulu based. In-person available on O'ahu; remote sessions worldwide.

A burnout coach helps you recover the capacity that chronic stress has eroded. In my practice that means nervous-system regulation first, then cognitive and behavioral rebuild, with progress measured by validated instruments at intake and again at six weeks. It is structured recovery work, not accountability check-ins.
If you're dealing with trauma, depression, active crisis, or anything that needs diagnosis and treatment, a licensed therapist, and I'll help you find one. If you're functioning but depleted, stuck in survival mode, and ready to work on the pattern itself, coaching fits. Many clients do both at once; with written consent I coordinate directly with your therapist.
The research and my practice agree: months, not days. Real recovery is a daily-return-to-baseline skill, not a vacation. Most clients work with me weekly for the first three months, then taper. The six-week re-measure tells us objectively whether the needle is moving.
No. Coaching is not a clinical service, so it isn't billable to insurance, and I'm transparent about that trade: no diagnosis on your record, no insurance company in the room, and rates published openly on this site.
Yes. I'm Honolulu based and see O'ahu clients in person. Most sessions, local and mainland, run by video, and the home neurofeedback program works anywhere.
Sometimes it's both, and they feed each other. My intake battery includes a WHO-developed adult ADHD screener, so we see the pattern early. Screening is coaching reflection, not diagnosis, and if formal assessment would serve you, I'll refer you. If the profile points more at workflow design than recovery, my Cognitive Performance Coaching line is built exactly for that.
